Hello, Everyone!

We had a week break and a career focused week and now we're into Week 10, which has been a whirlwind of activity as we dived deep into the realms of Accessibility and Green UX. Our focus was on making A1.net not just user-friendly but also environmentally responsible. Here's a quick rundown of what we've been up to.

Accessibility and Green UX: A Dual Focus

Our team took a two-pronged approach this week, focusing on both Accessibility and Green UX. We used a variety of tools like Lighthouse, EcoGrader, and WAVE Evaluation Extension to analyze the website's current state. The aim was to identify areas where A1.net could improve both in terms of user experience and environmental impact.

Key Findings

We documented our findings in an Excel table, prioritizing issues based on their impact and urgency. Some of the key issues we identified included inconsistent focus states, high initial load times, and the absence of a dark mode.

Proposed Solutions

Armed with these insights, we proposed a series of solutions aimed at addressing these issues. For instance, we suggested implementing a consistent focus state for better accessibility and optimizing load times to reduce energy consumption.

Presentation Day

We compiled our findings and proposed solutions into a comprehensive presentation. The presentation covered everything from our methodology to our prioritized list of issues and their proposed solutions.

Prioritizing Issues with the T-Shirt Model

As part of our standard methodology, we employed a T-shirt size rating system to assess both the level of effort and impact for each issue we identified. This straightforward approach helped us quickly sort which problems needed immediate attention and which could be deferred for later resolution.

Sustainability and User Experience: A Balanced Approach

Our dual focus on Accessibility and Green UX has been an enlightening experience. It's not just about making a website user-friendly; it's also about making it environmentally sustainable.

Concluding Thoughts

As we wrap up this week, we're struck by the importance of a design approach that is mindful of both user experience and environmental impact. The insights we've gained through our own analysis have been crucial, and we're eager to move into the next phase of our project where we'll begin implementing these changes.
